The objectives of this course is to provide participants with the information necessary to pass the City and Guilds 2382 exam. It is also designed to provide participants with further information relating to electrical theory and other technical issues concerning the IEE Wiring Regulations, that may be useful to practicing electricians and those wishing to become involved in electrical work.
On completion of this course the student should be able to:
Locate specific Regulations
Make full use of the regulations index
State the relationship between the Appendices and Regulations
State the purpose and objective of the Regulations
Identify the hazards, which the Regulations are designed to prevent
Evaluate the legal status of the regulations and any legislation which has a bearing on their application
Identify the fundamental requirements for safety
Define the main factors to consider when designing and erecting an
installation
List the earthing arrangements in the UK
Discuss methods of protection from shock arising from direct and indirect
contact
Distinguish between main and supplementary bonding
Calculate earth fault loop impedance
Select over current protection devices for particular installations
Select the appropriate switchgear for a given installation, including special locations
Calculate the size of cables in relation to their current carrying capacity and voltage drop
Explain why inspection of the installation is undertaken
State the items, which need to be inspected
List what background information is required before carrying out an inspection
State why testing of an installation is undertaken
Explain which tests are to be done
Demonstrate how tests are to be carried out
